Q: Alistair, tell us about your role at Unleash live.
A: I lead end-to-end delivery for some of our most strategic enterprise programs. That includes managing timelines, coordinating work across teams, and ensuring our customers realise the desired real-world outcomes, in a timely manner. My job is to ensure our AI/ML (Machine Learning) based drone and camera solutions go from idea to operations smoothly, whether it’s a utility inspecting power lines or a transport authority monitoring infrastructure.
Q: What do you enjoy most about what you do?
A: Every day is different, which I love. One day I’m working with our AI team to scope new analytics for a transport network, the next I’m in a post-incident debrief with emergency services, unpacking how our platform helped reduce response times. The work is technical and strategic, but also deeply operational. You can see the benefits quickly and in some cases immediately.
Q: What’s the most critical part of program management in an AI tech company like Unleash live?
A: Communication and alignment. AI can be abstract, and our customers are often under pressure to deliver results in the field. It is my role to ensure that our AI capability addresses the customers’ use cases, keep stakeholders informed, and make sure everyone—internal and external—is working together. Programs only succeed when there’s shared clarity on what success looks like.
Q: You’ve delivered across utilities, transport, mining, and public safety. What makes a successful rollout?
A: Start small and achieve quick wins, then scale fast. We always anchor to a clear business challenge—like reducing inspection time or identifying faults earlier. Then we run a controlled pilot, validate the outcomes, and scale with confidence. Unleash live’s platform is modular and cloud-native, which helps us move quickly without heavy infrastructure lift.
Q: What are some of the most exciting programs you’ve worked on?
A: One standout was with a major utility company transitioning from helicopter inspections to autonomous drones for asset inspections and condition assessment. It wasn't just a tech shift—it changed how they worked. Another was a transport authority using real-time analytics to monitor track conditions after storms. Seeing AI directly improve safety and operational uptime is incredibly rewarding.

A: We’re leaning into full automation—think drone-in-a-box, AI at the edge, real-time reporting without human intervention. That shift requires even tighter program coordination across hardware, software, and regulatory compliance. It's a space where program management can really unlock scale.
Q: Any advice for others looking to work in program roles in emerging tech?
A: Be adaptable and always ask, “What’s the desired outcome?” The tech will evolve, but the value is in solving real problems. Stay close to your customers, be honest about what’s working, and don’t be afraid to iterate. Also, learn the language of engineers, data scientists, and end users—it makes a huge difference.
